There are approximately 440 caves in the Akiyoshi-dai Plateau. You will be fascinated by the huge space within the caves, the beautiful colors and shapes of the speleothems (stalactites, stalagmites, etc.), and blind cave animals. Some of these animals have developed intriguing adaptations to the darkness and high humidity. | ![]() |

| Among them include notoptera (Grylloblattoidea) and bathynellid (Bathynellacea) which are called gliving fossilsh, and cave bats, six species of which can be observed within the caves. |
