The largest limestone plateau in Japan, Akiyoshi-dai Plateau consists of thick massive strata which contain many well-preserved fossils from the Carboniferous to the Permian period such as Fusulinaceans, Corals, Brachiopods, Bryozoans and Calcareous algae. Nowadays these fossils provide evidence to help explain the origins of the Akiyoshi limestone and the details from geologic events which took place over 300 million years ago. |
