ＣｈｏｆｕＴｏｕｒｉｓｔＧａｕｉｄｅ

　Ｃｈｏｆｕ：Ｅｃｈｏｅｓ　ｏｆ　ａｎ　Ｏｌｄ　Ｃａｓｔｌｅ　Ｔｏｗｎ

The Chofu District, Located on the outskirts of Shimonoseki, once flourished as a town of
`samurai', and is famous as the place where　the Meiji Restoration formally began. A number
of old shrines and　　temples still remain, pointing up its long, deep history as well as
the atmosphere of the era of samurai.

ＭｏｒｉＲｅｓｉｄｅｎｃｅｉｎＣｈｏｆｕ

This beautiful residence was built in 1903 by 2 samurais named mori,
who ruled Shimonoseki.　The beautiful japanese-style garden in also open
to the public.

Ｋｏｚａｎｊｉｔｅｍｐｌｅ

The buddhist Sanctum here, built in 1320, has　been
designated as a　national treasure.

ＣｈｏｆｕＭｕｓｅｕｍ

A collection of more than 10,000 historical materials,
　　including key　items related to the Meiji Restoration, can　
　　　　be viewed here.

ＫａｋｕｏｎｊｉＴｅｍｐｌｅ

　　　This is the family temple of the Mori, lord of Shimonoseki.　
The Shofuzan Kiln is also located in the temple precincts.

ＣｈｏｆｕＧａｒｄｅｎ

A landscape garden in a go-round style, spanning an area of about
30,000 square meters. Thousands of beautiful flowers and trees are in
bloom throughout the year.
　

　　ＧａｔｅｔｏｔｈｅｋａｎｆａｍｉｌｙＴｅｎａｎｔｈｏｕｓｅ　

　　The former home of the Kan, who served as the doctor to
　　　the　clan. The clay wall is 38.28 meters long.

ＤａｎｇｕＲｉｖｅｒ

　　The Dangu River provides a great part of the peaceful
atmosphere of　this old castle town. Fireflies can be seen here　
　 during the early　summer.

ＮｏｇｉＳｈｒｉｎｅ

　　This shrine is sacred to a noted soldier of the Meiji era, 　
　　Maresuke　Nogi, and his wife Shizuko. The Nogi residence and　
furniture are still preserved in the shrine precincts.
